How do I get a refill on my medication?

Refill requests may be done a few ways. The best way is to contact your pharmacy and have them send our office a refill request on your specific medication. Another option is to message your request to our office via the patient portal in the Healow app. The last option is to call our office at 979-297-4507 and choose the appropriate line to reach each provider’s specific Medical Assistants.

I need a referral to go see a doctor; how do I get one?

Requests for referrals may be done a few different ways. You can utilize the online patient portal, Healow messenger, or call the office at 979-297-4507 and choose line 7 to reach the referral specialist directly. Please have the following information prior to placing your referral request:

1. Name of Specialist

2. Specialist address and phone number 

2. Reason for your referral

3. Appointment date if you already have one

**Please note if you have not been seen for this by one of our providers, we will have to see you in order to have the appropriate documentation for your referral. 

**Referral will be completed within 10 business days and both the specialist and you will be notified of completion.


My insurance changed, what should I do?

Please call the office and update your insurance in our system. At your next appointment please bring the new card with you so it can be scanned into your chart.


I have a question about my labs, care plan, medications, etc.; who do I talk to?

You may view your chart on Healow via the patient portal. Questions can be asked via messenger or please give our office a call and direct those questions to each provider’s specific medical assistant.


How do I schedule to get my labs done?

You do not have to make an appointment to get lab work done. Just arrive at our office during normal business hours and check in at the front desk.


It’s outside of office hours and I need to schedule an appointment; what do I do?

You can schedule directly online via google or the Burns Family Practice website.

You can call our office number and for non-emergent issues please leave a message with our answering service and we will return your call as soon as possible.

For all emergent issues please call 911 or visit your closest Emergency Room.


What do I need to have/do in order to make an appointment and what do I need to bring to my appointment?

What is a wellness visit and how do I prepare for one?

A wellness is a preventative based visit where screenings are reviewed. It is best to obtain fasting labs one week prior to the appointment so that they may be reviewed at your visit.
